Letters Just a quick heads up - the band Gary Guenther refers to in the Kung Pao Chickens article is the Holy Modal Rounders, not the Holy Mogel Rounders. ED- Thanks for finding the error. That person has been taken care of. To Evil Kramer: Diminished scale (root, flat 3, flat 5, 6)(May issue, 2003). This really isn't right. It sort of assumes that the major scale is the basis of all other scales. "Like converting english into spanish in order to figure out the german" is how my theory head friend described it to me once. Root, minor 3, minor 5, 6 is what you mean, I believe. As for the cake thing, I agree. Evil Kramer replies: Yes, cake. Delicious, delicious cake. About the other thing, if you reread to the april issue you will find the relative scale I refer the diminished arpeggio to to be a major one. Enjoy some latakia along with a snifter of courvoisier and look it over again. I believe you will find yourself, not I, to be errant, which is, upon ponder, an unsurprising given. To the editor: I just got done reading the april issue online. In terms of the old saying that everyone is a critic, I wont let you down. Here's my 2 cents. Anything created in portland to help advance local music has my support and has been needed for many years. What was written in the editors column is right on accurate. There is no support for local groups because it's not profitable. The Merc just like the Rocket before them (and i can go on & on) only care about selling ad space (and can you blame them? publishing a mag is $$$$$). What your zine lacks in flair and marketing savvy (absence of ads & sponsors) it makes up for in honesty and simplicity. As you continue your struggle (if you're not struggling already, you will be) remember why you took on this challenge. Its because no one else had the balls. Good luck to you. ED- Our balls thank you. Send letters to letters@musicliberationproject.com or use the snail mail on the contact page |
