Baby Steps

Fun For the Under 21

by Amy Cashman

NO puddles of lost liquor, NO thick clouds of smoke, these clubs are all about the music. I’m talkin’ about the Quest and FX, two of the most popular Hip-Hop clubs for youngstaz in down town Portland. Not only do these “kiddy clubs” have some of the best dancers; they also got some of the best looking hunnies I’ve ever seen! I’ve seen the pimp hats and bra straps; but when it comes to style, the best looking people are the ones on the dance floor.

Aww.. Your Just Showin off! They could be anywhere from sixteen to twenty, but these teens are definitely showing off their dance moves every weekend at the Quest. Doors open at ten every Friday and Saturday, so if you feel like shakin’ your tail feather, head down to the Quest located right there on Second and Salmon.

You can get down with a couple of your friends in the middle of the dance floor; or you can test your skilz among many dancers who are showing off their sexy, overly rehearsed, yet memorable moves. I’ve noticed that it’s the same crowd that keeps returning to the Quest, so lets get some new faces over there. It’s the place to go if you really like Hip-Hop, it’s playin’ all night! So, check it out if you’re under 21. Sorry all you old fogies out their, you can’t get in if you’re over the age limit.

Get To Steppin! This older crowd kept me guessing with the steps and stunts they were pullin’ off. FX (otherwise known as Up-Front) attracts talented dancers from a variety of different cultures. That’s probably because the DJ’s here switched up from Hip-Hop to House music, but whatever your style is, you can keep it going till around two in the morning at FX.

Once again, there is a battle on the side lines and people gather to show off their moves. They are open every Friday and Saturday so if you have some moves to show off, come and join us. There is plenty of parking near Front Street so FX is easy to get to. I recommend FX to anyone looking for a good time, especially the dancers out there who know what I’m talking about when I say, “bring it on.”

I’m not from around here. I come from a place where the clubs face each other as though they were in combat. So I’ve danced among many people and been influenced by many styles. We use our bodies to express one of the most influential language, body language.. and I’m here trying to put it into writing.
